Overview
A versatile and nimble tool for measuring, mixing, and transferring applications on the job site, the Gauging Trowel is a staple in most tool kits.
The uses of a Gauging Trowel are limited by your imagination. Some professionals use this trowel exclusively for finishing concrete jobs where final smoothing is required, whereas others swear by its utility for working in narrow or confined spaces. More often, a professional tiler, brick layer or masonry pro will use this trowel for measuring and mixing i.e. “gauging”, mortar or plaster, scooping material out of a bucket, and applying these compounds to finish smaller jobs. The Gauging Trowel is suited for back-buttering, furrowing, scraping excess material, and working in tight spaces.
Available in 7” length, this round-toed trowel features a superior non-slip, soft grip handle to minimize wrist/hand fatigue, whether using the trowel upside down or right way up.
Crafted from a single piece of carbon steel with a rounded edge, the hand polished blade offers optimal flex, for controlled application in tight spaces, and is an essential tool in every professional’s tool box.
Care Instructions
High Carbon Steel and Blue Steel blades are often preferred by finishing professionals because they provide outstanding flex, feel and work ability. However, unlike stainless steel, they will oxidize/rust without proper care between uses. We recommend that the knives be cleaned thoroughly then lightly coated with WD-40 or a similar product prior to storage. The knives should be stored to ensure water doesn't collect near the handle.
PLEASE NOTE - On all of our carbon steel tools, we apply a thin, temporary protective lacquer finish to the blades; this provides protection from any minor oxidization between the factory through to the end user. The lacquer wears off quickly during the first few uses. However, if you would like to lightly sand it off, we suggest using 220 grit or finer sand paper. Be very careful - if you sand too aggressively, you may introduce grooves into the blade edge which can then appear in the mud finish.
