Here are the three steps you need to take to fix your overfilled automatic drywall taper.

Drywall Taping Troubleshooting

Typically, you can make sure that your taper does not overflow with joint compound by resting your fingers within the tube. However, as we all know, mistakes happen and overfilling an automatic taper is a fairly common occurrence when you’re getting used to running an automatic taper.

How to Fix Your Overfilled Taper

Step 1: Disengage the taper from the gooseneck.

Step 2: Relieve the pressure built up within the taper by depressing the filler valve (photo) with a screwdriver.

Step 3: Disengage the clutch and turn the drive dog key counterclockwise until both tape and compound advance at the same time.

There you have it! A quick fix for a simple mistake.
